This in turn gives you the opportunity to market directly to their phone. The rest is up to you!

So lets take a look  at the most common strategy used when promoting your night club or venue. Even if you aren’t a owner of a night club but more of a club promoter this article will still help you packing your club and leaving a line out the door.

Strategy #1 : Capturing contacts

Capturing contacts is by far the most important part of your text message marketing efforts. In this example we will use our favorite pick, SlickText.com as an example of how to execute this plan.

The first thing you will want to do is let your customers know how to sign up for your text list. The best way for any business in this industry to do this is by offering an incentive to join and directly asking your patrons to join your list. This could be at the door by the bouncers or by employees inside the club. Word of mouth even works good for clubs especially If you offer free cover for joining.

Step: 1

Think of a great incentive that has value that you are willing to offer your customers. Most clubs will offer a free cover or something of that sort for joining a list. Remember text is personal and people need some sort of hook to entice them to join your list.

When you have set up your account with SlickText.com you will be able to select what they call a, “Textword”. This is their way of saying keyword. Many companies have different names for them. Keyword is the most common. Other companies like YepText.com call them Yepwords and so on.

When you have selected a good keyword/textword you will then set your auto response. This is the message that the patron gets back immediately after texting your keyword to the designated short code number. In the case of SlickText.com their short code is 31996. Try it-> Text, “DEMO” to 31996

Step: 2

Print marketing flyers via your SlickText account. You can do this by logging in to your SlickText account, and then click on the purple button that says, “Help Grow My Lists”. On the next page click on the button that says, “Create Marketing Flyers”. Setup your flyer with the correct info. They have made it pretty simple.

As a best practice, in the body message type out what the patron will receive for joining your list. This would be considered the hook. The hook is what grabs them, and entices them to join if no one is around to ask them to join.

You may also want to edit these flyers on your own, by a third party or contact us and we will do the custom editing flyers for you. We have Pros in house that can make your flyers.

After you are done editing the flyer with the correct information click on the button to the right that says generate flyer. The flyer then can be opened immediately or downloaded to your desktop for editing and printing purposes.

Step: 3

If you can, edit the flyers to 4 per page and print a massive amount. Cut the flyers into their correct sizes and deposit a pile of flyers with the bouncers to hand out when patrons come in.  You will need to explain to all your staff and servers that it is now protocol to grab a flyer before going to a new table to bring with them menus and greet them. Even tell the bartenders to do so.

The bouncer will tell the patron to join the list and hand them a small flyer or tell them to join and you get free cover for joining the text list right now by texting a special word to 31996. In return they will receive an auto-reply immediately, which they can use then or at a later time depending if you used a expiration stamp in the auto-reply, like EXP 12/13.

On the other hand if you have a club promoter or maybe you do it yourself, you can promote free cover all over your social media and advertising mediums to increase your outcome before they get to the door.

Side note: As a best practice, have the bouncer or doorman check the text and make sure the expiration date is correct for the free cover. Some clubs offer free cover and the bouncers check and make you delete the text. This is not fun for either party. We have found that just altering your auto reply every once in awhile with a expiration date is much easier and faster.

FYISlickText is setup so you can only receive the auto-reply message 1 time for joining a text list, so you don’t have to worry about people unsubscribing and re-subscribing and receiving your auto-reply message more that once. If they do try, they will get back a message saying thanks for coming back.

As a disclaimer or fine print while setting up your flyer you can put a limit on the redeemable values. Here is an example.

Example Disclaimer: Limited to a 1 time use for free cover. Must be 21 to enter.

This is by far the most effective way to grow you list of contacts for any club or establishment in this industry. Remember creativity is up to you and this is only our suggestion.

Another great way clubs gain patrons is announcing to join via Facebook or twitter.

Step: 4

Post your flyers to join you text list everywhere. This includes treating all your current advertising outlets as a funnel for your text list.

Start by printing off extra flyers. Take these flyers and liberally post them throughout your establishment. Anywhere your customers eyes are should be a flyer. Some of the craziest spots will be the most successful in capturing contacts. Here are some examples.

  1. In the bathrooms above where you wash your hands
  2. In the bathroom next to where you grab for paper towels
  3. This is a big one. On the bathroom stall walls above the toilet and urinals for guys and on the doors for when you sit.
  4. On the windows of your establishment.
  5. On the doors right where your eyes meet when you come in
  6. Any waiting or standing areas
  7. On counters
  8. If you have table tent flyers
  9. Inside your menus
  10. Behind your bar
  11. Upload this flyer to Facebook and repost many times in future
  12. EVERYWHERE
